Featured speakers will expand on their research and insight based on published articles in the 50th volume of the Journal of Palestine Studies in a panel themed around the archive and future of JPS knowledge production, which will be led by Rashid Khalidi.
Rashid Khalidi: Edward Said Professor of Arab Studies at Columbia University, is co-editor of the Journal of Palestine Studies. He is the author of several books, most recently The Hundred Years' War on Palestine: A History of Settler-Colonialism and Resistance, 1917-2017.
Salim Tamari: IPS senior fellow and the former director of the IPS-affiliated Institute of Jerusalem Studies. He is co-editor of Jerusalem Quarterly and Hawliyyat al Quds. He is emeritus professor of sociology at Birzeit University. He has authored several works on urban culture, political sociology, biography, and the social history of the Eastern Mediterranean.
Leila Farsakh: chair and associate professor of political science department at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Her research focuses on the political economy of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and alternatives to partition. Her books include Palestinian Labor Migration to Israel: Labour, Land and Occupation (Routledge, 2005), The Arab and Jewish Questions: Geographies of Engagement in Palestine and Beyond (2020, Columbia University Press) co-edited with Bashir Bashir, and the forthcoming Rethinking Statehood in Palestine: Self-determination and Decolonisation beyond Partition (University of California Press, 2021).
Alex Winder: visiting assistant professor and director of undergraduate studies at the Center for Middle East Studies at Brown University. His first book, Between Jaffa and Mount Hebron: The Diary of Muhammad ‘Abd al-Hadi al-Shrouf, was published in Arabic by the Institute for Palestine Studies in 2016. His articles have appeared in the Journal of Palestine Studies, Radical History Review, AlMuntaqa, and Biography, among other venues. He previously served as executive editor of the Jerusalem Quarterly and will, in January 2022, begin serving as its co-editor.
Sreemati Mitter: is the Kutayba Alghanim Assistant Professor of Middle Eastern History and International and Public Affairs at Brown University.
