Event | Ever since the Israeli government announced East Jerusalem’s annexation on June 27, 1967, and the Knesset’s passing of the Basic Law on July 30, 1980, declaring a unified East and West Jerusalem the capital of the State of Israel, the Judaization of East Jerusalem and the uprooting of its Palestinian residents have not stopped. For instance, on August 2, 2009, the Israeli police ejected two Palestinian families from their homes in the Shaykh Jarrah neighborhood, where they resided for more than fifty years. Moreover, on August 16, Jewish settlers seized a Palestinian home in Silwan.
