Abstract

Proceedings of an international seminar at IPS, Beirut, November 2-5, 1981. 

This volume comprises twelve papers written for an international seminar held at the Institute for Palestine Studies in Beirut from 2-5 November 1981. The volume is divided into three main sections; the first provides a general background to the themes covered by the seminar; the second section deals with the perspectives of various international actors: Europe, the NATO alliance, the USSR and US; the third section covers the views of regional actors including the PLO, Israel and the countries of the Arab Mashriq, and Israel.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Rashid Khalidi is the president of the American Committee on Jerusalem, Washington, D.C., Edward Said Chair in Arab Studies at Columbia University, director of the Middle East Institute at Columbia University, and editor of the Journal of Palestine Studies. He is author of major works on the Middle East.

Camille Mansour is professor of international relations at the Universities of Paris and the Sorbonne, and founder and Dean of the Faculty of Law and Public Administration, Birzeit University in the West Bank. He is a member of the Executive Committee and also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute for Palestine Studies.
