Most years, Elizabeth Bishop is associate professor of modern Arab history at Texas State University, San Marcos. During 2019–20, she is teaching American Civilization at l'Université d'Oran 2 Mohamed Ben Ahmed (the course includes the Black Panthers’ experience in Algeria).
