D1. U.S. VICE PRES. JOSEPH R. BIDEN, REMARKS TO THE SABAN FORUM REGARDING NUCLEAR NEGOTIATIONS WITH IRAN, WASHINGTON, 7 DECEMBER 2014 (EXCERPTS)
On the final day of the Saban Forum (see Doc. C2 above), U.S. Vice Pres. Joseph R. Biden delivered the event’s keynote address. Biden’s speech centered on the ongoing nuclear negotiations between the P5+1 (U.S., China, France, Russia, UK, and Germany) and Iran, which had been extended on 24 November. The 24 November agreement included some sanctions relief for Iran, which in turn agreed to provide International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors with greater access to its nuclear enrichment facilities. Addressing the tensions around the negotiations, Biden reassured Israeli leaders that the United States would not accept a “bad deal.”
Presented below are excerpts from Biden’s speech. A full transcript is available at www.brookings.edu.
