Digital & Editorial Production Internship (12-15 hrs/week – paid) | 12 weeks
TWO Internship positions are listed, please read carefully
The Institute for Palestine Studies-USA is looking for two passionate and creative intern to join our team. They will closely work with the Senior Editor of Digital Strategy and Communications. Candidates should be current undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in a communication, journalism, political science, English, or related major. Recent graduates are welcome to apply. This is a remote opportunity open to candidates worldwide. *We are also open to recruiting volunteers at reduced hours.*
The interns will receive an orientation, skills-training, and a shipment of IPS publications. There are two internship positions — please indicate which you’d like to be considered for or if you’d like to be considered for both. See the descriptions below.
Qualifications for both positions:
- Ability to work independently and to make informed decisions;
- Ability to read articles critically and pull information in a timely manner;
- Basic knowledge of the history of the Middle East and specifically Palestinian history;
- Detail-oriented and time management skills;
Preferred for the digital content production position:
- Basic Canva skills with a keen eye for clean design;
- Excellent knowledge of X (Twitter), TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook practices;
- Must be comfortable filming Reels and TikToks (showing face isn’t necessary);
Preferred for the editorial content management position:
- Excellent writing and copyediting skills;
- Experience or interest in editing articles and web management;
Principal responsibilities for Digital Content Production internship position:
- Create and suggest relevant social media posts (infographics, video, and captions) for IPS publications and projects, including the Journal of Palestine Studies, Jerusalem Quarterly, and the Palestine Square blog;
- Assist in managing social media calendar and utilize scheduling tools;
- Conceptualize digital promotional and outreach campaigns;
- Write periodical news briefs, features, or commentary for the blog;
- Some research and data entry tasks;
- Monitor the news cycle surrounding Palestinian cultural and political affairs;
Principal responsibilities for Editorial Content Management internship position:
- Write periodical news briefs, features, or commentary for the blog;
- Proofread, copyedit, and fact-check blog articles;
- Assist in updating the website with new articles;
- Some research and data entry tasks;
- Some translation tasks from Arabic to English (optional);
- Monitor the news cycle and assist with soliciting pieces from new writers;
Stipend: $300 per month.
Internship duration: End of June - Beginning of September (TBD)
