Samiha Khalil (1923-1999)

Biography | A pioneer of the Palestinian women’s movement. In 1973, she was selected as a member in “the Palestinian National Front in the West Bank” and a member in “the National Guidance Committee” in 1979. She was arrested by the Israeli Occupation several times. Khalil founded Jam‘iyyat in‘ash al-usra (the Family Revival Society). She gave close attention to the preservation of the Palestinian heritage. She ran for the presidential elections in 1996 opposite President Yasir Arafat and won 12 percent of the vote.
