World Humanitarian Day, August 19, 2003

Highlight | In 2009, the United Nations General Assembly designated World Humanitarian Day, observed on August 19 of each year in memory of humanitarian workers killed or wounded while working for humanitarian causes. The international day was dedicated to the memory of the 22 people who died in the August 19, 2003 attack on the Canal Hotel in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. This year, World Humanitarian Day comes as global efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic continue.
