Ottoman Territorial Reorganization, 1840-1917

Highlight | In March 1888, the Ottomans decided to divide the Province of Syria into two provinces: a reduced Province of Syria and the Province of Beirut, to which the Districts of Nablus and Acre were attached. Jerusalem continued to be attached directly to Istanbul as was decided in 1872.
