Abd al-Hamid Shuman (1888 - 1974)

Biography | Abd al-Hamid Shuman was born in Beit Hanina in the district of Jerusalem; he was a self-made man, known for his patriotism and nationalism. He emigrated to the United States, and after his return to Palestine, founded the Arab Bank (1930). After the Nakba, he succeeded in expanding his banking activity. Today in Amman, his name is associated with an institution that deals with cultural affairs and contributes to funding research.
