Dia Azzawi
Biography: 

Dia al-Azzawi was born in 1939 and achieved a degree in archaeology at Baghdad University (1958–62), and a diploma from the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad (1959–64). Azzawi exhibited his work from 1964 and became a central figure in the development of modernist art in Iraq. In 1976, he moved to London and his work became influenced by world politics, especially injustice in the Arab World, publicising and supporting the Palestinian cause and that of the Iraqi people. Azzawi had a retrospective exhibition in Doha, Qatar (2016–17) and his work is in public and private collections worldwide.
