Document | On 15 May 1947, the United Nations General Assembly formed a Special Committee on Palestine (UNSCOP), consisting of representatives of 11 countries. On 3 September, after visiting Palestine, UNSCOP issued its report. The majority of its members recommended the partition of Palestine into two states, Arab and Jewish, with economic union, while the minority recommended the establishment of a federal state. The General Assembly adopted the recommendation of the majority and passed the partition resolution on 29 November 1947.
