Hamada Al-Jomaa is a community activist. He established the Palestinian Youth Initiative in Tyre and is a member of the core team of the National Campaign for the Implementation of the Procedures for the Palestinian Popular Committees for Services in Lebanon. He worked as a social worker and trainer in nonviolent communication. He also established the network of beekeepers and currently practices permaculture on the outskirts of Tyre.
In her practice, yasmine eid-sabbagh explores potentials of human agency by engaging in experimental, collective work processes. Photography often acts as a medium for her to communally investigate notions of collectivity, power, and endurance, including through her engagement as a member of the Arab Image Foundation, a practitioner-led archival institution, and as a focus in her PhD in art theory and cultural studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (2018).
Ahmad El-Faour has been involved in establishing a participatory space for young women and men to become part of decision-making processes in Rashidieh refugee camp in Tyre. Between 2010 and 2017, he established the community café “Handala” that inspired the founding of the Palestinian Youth Network in Lebanon. He worked as a project advisor and facilitator for GIZ, supporting the development of national youth strategies for Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, in collaboration with UNRWA and the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee.
Khawla Khalaf has worked for over ten years with psychologists in psychosocial care at the Beit Atfal Assumoud Community Center in al-Bass refugee camp in Tyre. She is currently organizing the Thirteenth Annual Mental Health Conference in Beirut titled, “Multiple Crises and Their Impact on Children, Parents, Healthcare, and Educational Providers’ Mental Health: Challenges and Opportunities.”
For more than twenty years, Wassim Said has worked with children and youth in Burj al-Shamali refugee camp, within the framework of the scout group he founded with his friend and colleague Hamada Al-Jomaa. Said studied sociology and continues to face challenges carrying out his social work within the UNRWA system.
