We are proud to share that Palestine Square — the English blog of the Institute for Palestine Studies — has joined the Movement Media Alliance, a coalition of grassroots, social justice-driven journalism organizations in the United States, committed to accurate, transparent, accountable, principled, and just media.
“There is power in creating movement journalism in a landscape where readers, viewers and listeners feel abandoned or unseen by traditional media. Movement journalism offers a critical tool for communities to learn, make informed decisions, expand their solidarities and share solutions for the issues that affect their lives,” write Maya Schenwar (Truthout) and Lara Witt (Prism) of the coalition.
Laura Albast, the blog's Editor, writes:
As our collective voices grow louder, Palestine Square has become a reliable platform for Palestinian voices and allies on the ground and in the diaspora, who otherwise wouldn’t be offered a space in the mainstream. Writers of all ages — who hail from diverse backgrounds and interdisciplinary fields — repeatedly choose Palestine Square, trusting that their words will reach readers who will take action.
We document all that is Palestinian life: there are no parachuting journalists, no restrictive editorial policies, no anti-Palestinian biases. This is journalism that respects and uplifts the Palestinian narrative against erasure, Occupation, settler-colonialism, and genocide.
We do so through storytelling, testimonies, analysis, reporting, and documentation, playing a role in preserving a repository of Palestinian memory, history, and resistance. In joining the Movement Media Alliance, we are building power with like-minded organizations, while also expanding our reach and potential.
In addition to Palestine Square, the coalition includes Truthout, Prism, In These Times, Convergence Magazine, Waging Nonviolence, Scalawag, Inquest, The Real News Network, Baltimore Beat, Palestine Square, Mondoweiss, TransLash, Hammer & Hope, The Dig, Respair Production & Media, The Forge, and Haymarket Books.
