Highlight | Since the early 1880s, French Baron Edmond de Rothschild supported financially the first Jewish agricultural colonies in Palestine that were established by the "Lovers of Zion." At the end of the Great War, the British imposed their mandate on Palestine to the detriment of France's interests, but France approved in 1947 the partition of Palestine and clandestinely delivered arms to the Zionists the following year.
