Highlight | Urban planning in Palestine has gone through several stages since the Ottoman period. While the British Mandate left a clear Western influence on the architectural environment, the Zionist movement destroyed more than 400 towns and villages in 1948 and since then Israel placed severe restrictions on the movement of Arab construction, both in Israel and, after 1967, in the West Bank and Gaza. After the Oslo Accords, the latter witnessed a building boom that changed the architectural landscape and almost eliminated traditional building methods.
