Palestinians around the world continue to document their own history, identity, and culture through established and newly found institutions. The efforts of such institutions reflect a wider trend of innovative archiving, oral history, reconstruction of maps, and knowledge production, at local, national and global levels.
Speakers from the Institute for Palestine Studies, The Palestinian Museum, and the Palestine Land Studies Center at the American University of Beirut will share the work they do to sustain Palestinian memory and rights, and link their efforts to those wider global dynamics of Palestinian self-assertion and affirmation.
Rami G. Khouri is Co-Director of Global Engagement, Senior Public Policy fellow, Adjunct Professor of Journalism, and Director of Anthony Shadid Archives research project the American University of Beirut. He is also a non-resident senior fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School. His columns have been published in The New Arab and Agence Global.
Camille Mansour is the chief-editor of the Interactive Encyclopedia of the Palestine Question, a joint project of the Institute for Palestine Studies (IPS) and the Palestinian Museum. He is secretary-general of the IPS Board of Trustees. He was professor of international relations and Middle East politics at Paris University and also taught at Birzeit University where he headed the Institute of Law and was the dean of the Faculty of Law and Public Administration.
Dr. Rami Zurayk is Professor in (and former chairperson of) the Department of Landscape Design and Ecosystem Management at the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences. He currently serves as Director of the Food Security Program as well as Coordinator of the Ecosystem Management Track in the Interfaculty Graduate Environmental Sciences Program. He is the interim director of the Palestine Land Studies Center (PLSC), a long-term activist on Palestinian issues and former advisor of the AUB Palestinian Cultural Club. His research interests center on landscape and agrarian transformation, as well as on political ecology of the Arab world.
Adila Laïdi-Hanieh is the Director General of the Palestinian Museum. She is also the founding director of the Khalil Sakakini Cultural Centre NGO. She has published several essays and books, including the artist biography: Fahrelnissa Zeid. Painter of Inner Worlds, and the anthology Palestine. Rien ne nous manque ici. She received a PhD in Cultural Studies from George Mason University as a Fulbright Scholar, and obtained an MA in Arab Studies from Georgetown University. She also taught at Birzeit University.
