Document | During the presidency of French socialist François Hollande, France tried to promote the stalled “peace process” between the Palestinians and the Israelis. To this end, it called a ministerial meeting in Paris on June 3, 2016, at which the idea of a conference on Middle East peace was proposed. The conference took place in the French capital on January 15, 2017, with the representatives of more than 70 countries and international organizations, but without Palestinians or Israelis. The conference said in a statement that a two-state solution, with Israel and Palestine living side by side in peace and security, was the way to achieve a just and permanent peace.
