Highlight | In 1954 the UN General Assembly approved an international day for children and on November 20, 1959, it approved the Declaration on the Rights of the Child, which has been ratified by most countries in the world. It asserts a package of rights, including the right to education, the right to recreation, the right to health care and the right to grow up “in an atmosphere of affection”. Since 1990, World Children’s Day has been celebrated on November 20 each year, with the aim of encouraging states to ensure the welfare of children and meet their obligations toward future generations.
