Event | After the PLO had already enjoyed observer status at UNESCO, the executive board of UNESCO voted by a large majority, on October 5, 2011, to grant the State of Palestine full membership of the UN organization. This decision was endorsed by the general conference of UNESCO at a session on October 31 of the same year, prompting the United States to cut off funding to UNESCO.
