Highlight | In solidarity with fellow Palestinians who had risen up against Israeli occupation in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza after Likud leader Ariel Sharon's visit to the Aqsa Mosque area on September 28, 2000, the Palestinian Arab inhabitants of Israel launched protests in early October of the same year, from the Negev in the south, through the mixed towns, to Galilee in the north. The widespread protests lasted several days and the Israeli police responded with live ammunition and rubber bullets, killing 13 Palestinians.
