Highlight | After the assassination of President-Elect Bashir Gemayel on 14 September 1982, the Israeli army invaded West Beirut, surrounded the Palestinian camps, and, on the 16th late afternoon, sent right-wing Christian militias to Shatila camp and the Sabra neighborhood. They massacred around 3000 Palestinian and Lebanese civilians.
