Document | On this day in 2001, the World Conference Against Racism (WCAR), held in Durban, South Africa and organized by the UNESCO, adjourned and issued a declaration denouncing the spread of intolerance and the rise of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. It also expressed concern over the fate of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation, calling for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel, and guaranteeing the return of Palestinian refugees.
