Highlight | On June 6, 1982, Israel launched a massive attack on Lebanese territory under the pretext of protecting Israeli settlements in Galilee from Palestinian missiles. However, their actual goal was to expel the PLO forces and its apparatus and conclude a peace agreement with Lebanon. Following a three-month Palestinian-Lebanese resistance against the invading Israeli forces who managed to reach and besiege Beirut, the PLO was forced to leave Lebanon before a short-lasting Lebanese-Israeli peace agreement was reached in May 1983.
