Document | Following its rejection of Resolution 242 on 19 February 1986, King Hussein announced the cessation of political coordination with the Palestine Liberation Organization, holding it responsible for disrupting the joint Jordanian-Palestinian political action based on the Amman Agreement. Algerian President Chadli Bendjedid, on April 8, 1986, announced his country's readiness to host a general Palestinian conference. Following a series of dialogues between 20 and 25 April 1987, the eighteenth session of the Palestinian National Council was held in Algiers, which succeeded in restoring the unity of the main factions of the PLO and was one of the factors that paved the way for the outbreak of the first Palestinian intifada.
