Biography | Awni Abd al-Hadi was born in Nablus, and studied at the Sorbonne. He became involved in the Arab nationalist movement at an early age. In 1911, he and fellow students in Paris established the nationalist association called al-‘Arabiyya al-fatat (Young Arab Society). Following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, he became close to King Faisal of Syria. Upon his return to Palestine, he began to practice law and contributed to the reconstitution of the Arab Independence Party in August 1932. When the General Strike was proclaimed in 1936, Abd al-Hadi assumed the post of Secretary of the Arab Higher Committee and was arrested by the British Mandate authorities for several months. After the Nakba, he served in various official positions in Jordan.
