Biography | Muin Bseiso was born in Gaza City. He was one of the most prominent poets of the Palestinian resistance and was engaged, from his early youth, in the national and democratic struggle, publishing his first poems in 1944. He led the demonstrations that defeated, in March 1955, the project to settle the refugees in the Sinai desert, and spent seven years in prison. During the Israeli invasion of Lebanon, in the summer of 1982, he co-edited the newspaper al-Ma’raka. In 1979, he was awarded the Shield of the Revolution for Arts and Literature and, one year later, the International Lotus Prize.
