Abstract

This book contains official public statements by U.S. State Department, United Nations, and White House officials concerning Israeli settlements and the Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War of August 12, 1949, which are treated as two distinct sections. Statements are arranged topically; within each topic they are placed in reverse chronological order. Although the research began with government documents as of June 1967, the first explicit government statement found regarding settlements is dated March 23, 1976; the first statement regarding the Geneva Convention is dated June 13, 1967. The most recent statement is dated February 25, 1992. Among the Appendices are lists (but not the texts) of UN resolutions referring to "Settlements" and "The Fourth Geneva Convention" that the U.S. either voted for or abstained on.
