Abstract

This is a unique compendium of 512 original documents, most of which are published for the first time, which together chronicle the Palestinian national struggle against the British occupation from 1918 to the end of the Arab Revolt in 1939. These documents literally constitute the archives of the first Palestinian Executive Committee and were entrusted to the care of the Palestinian leader, Akram Zu’aytir, who bequeathed them to the IPS.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Akram Zuaytir was born in Nablus in 1909, he studied at both the American University of Beirut and the Law School in Jerusalem. He was an activist and a co-founder in the 1930s of the Palestinian branch of the Pan-Arab Istiqlal (Independence) party. Zu’aytir was imprisoned by the British and played a key role in organizing the Palestinian Great Rebellion (1936-1939) against British pro-Zionist policies.
