Gaza in the Journal of Palestine Studies: Nearly Two Decades of Israeli Incursions and Siege

More than 16 years ago, the Israeli military put the Gaza Strip under a complete blockade—by land, air, and sea. Today, the Strip—25 miles long and 7 miles wide (twice the size of Washington, DC)—is home to 2.2 million Palestinians, most of whom are refugees from the 1948 Nakba and the 1967 war, and more than half are under the age of 18. Due to Israel’s siege, the majority of Palestinians in Gaza do not have access to basic needs such as healthcare, water, sanitation services, and electricity.
